Raindrop Technique Education
What is Raindrop?

What is Raindrop?

Did you know that the 2nd most common reason for visitations to doctors
is for back complaints?

RAINDROP Technique™ is a unique essential oil treatment expertly organized  by Young Living founder D. Gary Young. Raindrop involves the amazing power of essential oils (which are dispensed in small, rain-like drops about six inches above the spine), mixed with a variety of healing & massage techniques, including back massage and foot Vita Flex massage.
It is a form of aromatherapy, but referred to as essential oil sciences.

The RAINDROP Technique™ can be used as a tool to provide a healthy balance to the body.
Raindrop incorporates certain Native American concepts, including a special form of massage called “feather stroking” which is similar to a massage technique called “effleurage”.

Raindrop Technique (RT) is a powerful, non-invasive tool for assisting the body in correcting defects in the curvature of the spine by utilizing the anti-microbial nature of  essential oils.

RT utilizes undiluted essential oils consistent with the French model for aromatherapy (the most practiced and studied model in the world).  Illustrious French physicians (Rene Gattefosse, PhD; Jean Valnet, M.D.; Jean-Claude Lapraz, M.D.; Daniel Penoel, M.D.) have consistently recommended neat (undiluted) use of essential oils with over 40 years of clinical experience.

Lakota Indian Teachings

While visiting with the Lakota people, Gary learned that for several generations, before the US/Canadian border was established, the Lakota Indians migrated across the Canadian border into the northern regions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. There, they often witnessed the Northern Lights, or Aurora borealis. Those who were ill or had complicated health problems would stand facing the Aurora Borealis, hold their hands toward the lights, and inhale deeply.
The Lakota believed that when the Aurora Borealis was visible, the air was charged with healing energy. They would mentally ‘inhale’ this energy, allowing it to pass through their spine and on to other afflicted areas of the body through neurological pathways. Many experienced dramatic healing effects through this practice.

Eventually, after the border made migrations impossible, the Lakota began to use effleurage, or feathered finger stroking, which became associated with this healing technique. Additionally, the Lakota continued their practice of mentally processing energy, coupled with effleurage, to distribute healing energy throughout the body.
Gary Young found that when this Lakota practice of effleurage was coupled with the energy created by essential oils and Vita Flex, (foot application technique) its effects were greatly heightened. Since this therapeutic practice was formally adopted in 1989, Raindrop Technique (RDT) has received an enormous amount of praise from users all over the world and embraced by massage therapists, chiropractors and other medical professionals for its help with relaxation, emotional release, tissue cleansing, antiviral effects and help with spinal misalignments.

“ The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day.”

Psychology of Smell

Dr. Alan R. Hirsch, a neurologist, psychiatrist, researcher & expert in smell and taste, writes how "Smells are one of the quickest ways to change mood and emotion and can induce memories." They can also change one's memory, so as to remove one's trauma or deep held negative memories.

Our sense of smell is estimated to be 10,000 times more acute than our other senses with sensitivity to some 10,000 chemical compounds.............. Scents travel more quickly to the brain than do stimuli from sight or sound. The odors induce parts of the brain to stimulate the release of hormones and neuro-chemicals which alters body physiology and therefore human behavior.
Most of the brain’s neurotransmitters are located in the olfactory bulb, providing further evidence of the link between human emotions and our sense of smell (Hirsh, 1997).

Odors also stimulate the hypothalamus-pituitary axis which allows modulation  for dopamine, serotonin, catecholamine and other hormone levels. Certain Essential oils are especially high in sesquiterpenes which have the ability to cross the blood -brain barrier.

The sense of smell is described differently from the other four senses as it is the only one that is directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, the emotional control center.  Emotions such as anxiety, depression, fear, anger and joy all emanate from this region. Dr Hirsch points out that odors impact all of us whether we like it or not. They influence us in a preconscious way and create impressions- especially in relationships to others.

Fear conditioning is thought to depend upon an area of the brain called the amygdala, as researched by scientist, researcher Joseph LeDoux.  Recent research has further supported a crucial role for the amygdala in fear conditioning.  In other words, fear and trauma are specifically located in the amygdala.

Because the olfactory bulb is part of the brain's limbic system, an area so closely associated with memory and feeling it's sometimes called the "emotional brain," smell can call up memories and powerful responses almost instantaneously.

The olfactory bulb has intimate and direct access to the amygdala, which processes emotion, and the hippocampus, which is responsible for associative learning. Both the amygdala and the hippocampus are impacted during PTSD. Despite the tight wiring, however, smells would not trigger memories if it weren't for conditioned responses. When you first smell a new scent, you link it to an event, a person, a thing or even a moment. Your brain forges a link between the smell and a memory -- associating a smell with a memory.

We actually begin making associations between smell and emotion before we're even born! Our sense of smell is our most potent sense of all. Aromas produce distinctive psychological & physical effects that influence one's mood, wakefulness, anxiety etc.

Olfactory System
Smell is our most powerful sense- directly linked to the limbic portion of the brain, that is connected to the subconscious- emotional switchboard.
The essential oils also assist in releasing deeply held memories and emotions.

Smells can bring us back to past events within milliseconds, making us feel a certain way based on past events, whether we realize why we’re suddenly feeling that way or not.
Essential oils, for example, can have dramatic effects on limbic function and how you feel.
Because the strong fragrances they hold, which are found inside volatile molecules can make their way into your bloodstream, and travel directly through the blood/brain barrier very quickly.

We are always sensing our own odour clouds to change our cognition and behaviour – whether you realize it or not.
In our most basic behaviours, we follow our nose not our eyes: if a food is visually appealing but smells bad, we are less likely to eat it; we’ll be more attracted to a romantic partner who smells pleasant regardless of looks versus a potential partner who looks nice but smells bad.

Smell and memories are linked: first-time experience of smell develops a particularly robust memory cue.
Information processing is linked to olfactory inhalation.
Nose breathing shapes cognition: there is data supporting the idea that nasal inhalation is timing and modulating cognitive processing.

Raindrop not only provides for a most relaxing, calm and rejuvenating experience, but also assists in releasing deeply held emotions.

Vita Flex Technique

Another part of the Raindrop Treatment is called “Vita-Flex”.
This is a therapeutic foot maneuver adapted from Oriental acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology.

Vita Flex is a unique therapy whose name means "vitality through the reflexes". It is a specialized form of hand and foot massage that is especially effective in delivering the benefits of essential oils throughout the body. It is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, and was perfected in modern times by Stanley Burroughs long before acupuncture was developed.
It is based on a stimulating a complete network of reflex points that stimulate all the internal body systems on the bottom of the feet. Oils are applied to the contact or reflex points, and energy is released through electrical impulses created by contact between the fingertips and the reflex points.

Essential oils are 50 to 80 times more powerful than herbs because they are absorbed into your blood stream immediately. Even if you are starting with absolutely no knowledge of what essential oils are or what they're capable of, this Raindrop program begins with an introduction to essential oils—botanicals such as trees, roots, leaves, fruits, grasses and flowers that are distilled or extracted producing an aromatic liquid substance.

Vita Flex Technique

The Vita Flex Foot Chart outlines the corresponding reflex organ points.
The Vita-Flex Treatment is based on a complete system of internal body controls.  When properly applied through specific application of hand rotation movements and control points, a vibrational healing energy is released through the electrical impulses by the contact between the fingertips and the reflex points.  This stimulates an electrical charge that follows the neuro pathways of the nervous system to where there is a break in the electrical circuit.
Combining the electrical frequency of the oils and that of the person receiving the application creates rapid and phenomenal energetic results.
With Vita-Flex, the weakened or injured areas are energized on the electrical reflex points thus preventing further injury and less stress allowing for quicker and more efficient healing. The body heals itself.
